Erich Von Stroheim boxset (MK2)(2006-11-07) Even if Von Stroheim is much more known as being the Man you’ll love to hate, playing the cruel and vicious german character, one must not forget he was one of the first true genius in cinema history. Beginning as being Griffith assistant, Von Stroheim managed to direct his first movie in 1919, Blind Husbands, which was a real commercial success and was acclaimed by the critic. Von Stroheim instantly became one the most promising talents in Hollywood.
But it all quickly turned wrong as Von Stroheim was totally intransigent and had extravagant demands for his movies. Exceeding both schedules and budgets, Von Stroheim was deemed unmanageable and soon had to stop directing. He had enough time to give us remains of the masterpieces he worked on (many of his films are largely cut, Queen Kelly as we know it his only the prologue (!) of the movie Von Stroheim wanted) and show to us his cruel vision of the world trough his incredibly audacious movies.
Finally available for the first time in France, three of his movies are released in a boxset including Blind Husbands, Foolish Wives and Queen Kelly beautifully restored with numerous special features. Absolutely essential.
